Stop Procrastinating And Start Exercising
To be honest you don’t need anything other than your body and some old clothes to start exercising. Too often nowadays we use gadgets as an excuse as to why we’re not fit. We say we can’t get fit yet as we don’t have the money to buy a treadmill, or we can’t afford the gym membership, or we want to get some ab roller deluxe pro 3000 and then we’ll get fit and healthy. In reality that is just us putting it off because we are too lazy to put in the work.
The big secret to getting fitter is just to move around more than usual! Which could be as simple as taking the stairs every time you get the chance, rather than using the elevator, or you could start hiking on the weekends. You won’t be running any marathons just by doing that kind of exercise, but it will help you to gain more energy, strengthen your bones and your heart and of course burn off some calories too. If you start doing that and enjoying it then you can take things further by starting to jog as well. You might need to buy some new running shoes to make sure you look after your feet, and a strapless heart rate monitor is always good, but other than that you don’t need anything to start jogging.
The quickest and easiest way to get into jogging is to find a club near you that does it and then join them. Then they can give you the best advice on which shoes are going to be the best, where good places to jog are, they can correct any posture problems you have as you jog etc, and you will have someone to talk to as you do it too. Plus I find it is so much more motivating if you have a group to go to who will notice if you are lazy and don’t turn up, rather than trying to motivate yourself to go out on your own when you’re tired and its cold.
It is going to be really hard work for you the first 2 or 3 times you go out, but don’t be tempted to push yourself too hard when you are just starting. The first time you finish a jog you will probably be gasping for breath and cursing the idea of ever jogging again, but jogging is strange and forces your body to adapt quickly, so each time you go out it will get easier, and you will find that you can run further. The change can be quick dramatic and you will find you can run 20 – 40% further just from one week to the next as your body adapts to your new hobby. Of course after a month or so the gains will slow down dramatically because your body has adjusted and now you are reaching the limits of your stamina, but by then you’ll be hooked on your new hobby anyway!
